Katelyn Strauss
I am a qualified Intermediate Phase Teacher specialising in special needs education. I work with children and young people who have a range of learning difficulties, disabilities, or developmental challenges. My main role is to support these learners to achieve their full potential, both academically and socially. My key responsibility is to identify the childs’ strengths and difficulties through observations, assessments and working with other professionals. I do have experience in working with children that were diagnosed with ADHD, reading difficulties (dyslexia), autism and severe to mild intellectual problems. I modify teaching methods and resources to suit each learners’ needs (for example, using visual aids, assistive technology, or sensory activities). I liaise closely with other therapists like speech- and occupational therapists.
I identify the learners’ strengths and difficulties through observation, assessments and working with parents and referring to other professionals if needed. I develop individual tailored goals and strategies for each child’s different needs.
I assist children struggling with language and reading by giving extra support to make learning easier.
Services
Stark Griffin Dyslexia Therapy (SGDT)
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects an individual’s ability to read and spell. It presents with a range of symptoms that can vary in severity from mild to profound and often impacts each learner differently. I offer specialised, diagnosis-specific Structured Dyslexia Intervention (SDG) therapy tailored to meet the unique needs of learners with dyslexia.
Special Needs Support/Remedial Therapy in language and reading difficulties
Therapy is designed to enhance reading, spelling, comprehension, and writing skills, tailored to the learner’s age, grade level, and individual learning needs.
Perceptual and reading skills assessment
This assessment is conducted to identify specific gaps in a learner’s perceptual and reading skills. Based on the results, a personalised remedial therapy program will be developed to address the learner’s individual needs.
School readiness assessment
School readiness refers to a learner’s ability to adapt to and succeed within the formal educational environment, particularly at the Grade 1 level. I am trained to give a comprehensive evaluation of a child's preparedness for school. Upon completion of the assessment, detailed feedback will be shared with parents or guardians. Where necessary, targeted therapy will be offered to address and support any developmental areas identified during the assessment.
